Building sustainable performance – a new collaboration

When People Thrive, Organisations Perform.

This year, I’ve had the opportunity to collaborate closely with performance coach Mats Borgen‑Johansen in conceptualising, planning and facilitating a “performance week” for Danske Bank (read more about it here). Our shared interest in performance, energy, and personal development has evolved into a highly complementary partnership – and a program we believe is both timely and needed.

We come from different professional backgrounds. Mats has a Master’s degree in Sport Science from the Norwegian School of Sport Sciences and brings extensive experience working with physical and mental capacity, both for individuals and teams. His work is rooted in how the body and mind influence energy, focus, and performance in everyday life. My background is in business development and management, sustainability, team/partner development, and collaboration – with a focus on how we create long-term value in a world where expectations, complexity, and speed are constantly increasing.

Together, we discovered something important: Performance cannot be separated from sustainability.

Why this collaboration matters

In many organisations today, the pressure to perform is increasing. At the same time, we see rising levels of stress, fatigue, and fragmentation in how people work. The traditional response has often been to push harder, deliver faster, and do more. But that approach is no longer sustainable. Through our collaboration, we aim to challenge that mindset. We work from the belief that sustainable performance is not about doing more – but about creating the right conditions for people to perform well over time. This means looking beyond tasks and output, and instead focusing on the underlying drivers: Energy, Recovery, sleep, Focus, Habits, Strategies, Team dynamics.

From insight to practice

One of the key reasons we chose to develop a joint concept is that we bring different – but highly complementary – perspectives to the table. Mats brings deep expertise in physical and mental performance: how sleep, movement, nutrition, and routines affect capacity and results. I bring a broader organisational and sustainability perspective: how structures, culture, expectations, and ways of working influence both people and performance. Together, this allows us to move from theory to practice. Not just talking about performance – but working with teams to create tangible change in how they work, collaborate, and deliver.

A shared approach

Our joint program is built around a simple idea: Small, intentional changes can create significant impact over time. Through a structured week with organisations, we combine:

  • Performance coaching

  • Practical tools

  • Reflection and insight

  • Shared team experiences

The goal is not a short-term boost – but lasting impact. We want teams to leave with:

  • Greater awareness

  • Better habits

  • Stronger collaboration

  • And a more sustainable way of performing

Looking ahead

This collaboration represents something I believe strongly in: Bringing together different perspectives to solve complex challenges. Performance, sustainability, and well-being are not separate topics. They are deeply interconnected. By working across disciplines, we can create something more relevant, more practical – and ultimately more impactful. I’m excited to continue developing this work together with Mats, and to bring this approach to organizations looking to strengthen both performance and sustainability in a meaningful way.
